Getting ready for Christmas

This summer, when I was cruising around in my Dad´s boat, learning how to work the engine, I made a few pit-stops along the shores to pick up driftwood. The bigger pieces I use as panelling in my hall (I´ll have to show that sometime…), but the smaller pieces were free for use in other creative projects.

I picked out pieces of various lengths to make a little, alternative, coastal Christmas tree. First arranging the pieces by size and both gluing and nailing them down to the vertical driftwood used as a “stem”.

And finally adding some coastal decor to it. I could have used anything, even brightly colored glass-bulbs, but I wanted it to stay subtle and true to my theme. As a star I used a dried star-fish, that I bought once out traveling. The tiny blue starfish and the seahorses I got from an old Artfest-buddy who had an online-store. The white shell is an old earring that lost it´s match. The feather with a real crystal tied to it was a trade from this year´s Artfest. The enameled bead at the bottom I made last year at Art&Soul in Portland. And finally, the little glass-jar filled with sand and with the label that says “Portable day on the beach”!

This alternative Christmas tree is perfect for a small flat, where the space is limited. It doesn´t take up much place in the apartment, and even better, it doesn´t take up much storage-space the other 11 months of the year! :-)

What type of Christmas tree do you prefer? Traditional, sustainable/alternative or plasticfantastic? I´d love to hear from you!
