silver chair

I have three chairs in my cellar waiting for a new life. I know this one is going to take some time and effort, but I wanted to get started on it. The wooden framework I got just like you see it at a charity shop. It´s oak, I believe, and is newly made and has not been upholstered at all before. A cute little rococo-thing :-)

I decided that I wanted to make it into a silver chair. (I know, I´m a little behind the fashion, but who cares)

I painted piece by piece with silver acrylic paint, and while the paint was still wet, I added silver-leaf. This is real silver I believe, because I got it years ago in Jaipur, India, where the silversmiths had hammered the metal into incredibly thin sheets. It acted differently than the cheap metal-leaf I´ve been working on on the back-drop-picture, that´s for sure. As you can see, it´s very flaky, and needs to dry 24 hours before I can brush off the excess silver, and start on layer two.

It might take some time for me to finish this chair though, not because it´s a lot of work, but because there is so much else going on around here. I´m busy. I´m lucky. Any freelancer who is busy is lucky.

  1. Wow, that is very cool-looking! Can’t wait to see it finished! (That’s not your kitchen in the background, is it? I mean, I’m not losing my mind, am I?)

  2. Gorgeous chair! Can’t wait to see what magic you pull off with the upholstery! Janne, THANK YOU THANK YOU for my brushes! They were such an awesome treat and so beautiful to paint with! :o) I have been taking the 5 week course from misty mawn, and the brushes were just an extra bit of wonderfulness! so thank you again so much for your sweet wonderful self!! {{HUGS}}

  3. Thanks you guys! I´m looking forward to the same thing myself… I haven´t decided. I actually have a cool matte leather-imitation that I thought I´d use. But I might have to splash out on something more “me” 😀
