A new year, a new calendar-book

A new year has started, time for a fresh start in a new calendar-book. This time I wanted to try something a little different. The past years I´ve made my books from scratch, but this time I wanted the cover to be a recycled book cover. I do find some nice old books at the regional Salvation Army-store, and there I found this Victor Hugo´s book about the Notre Dame Church in Paris.

I took out the book itself (printed in 1910) and made the spine stronger by gluing down an embroidered silk ribbon.

Then I painted all the pages, folded them into an accordion, and glued down the first page onto the inside front cover. So now the book had a subtle cover, and a colorful surprise inside! 😀

Adding the dates…

The first 14 days of January are all set to go! I am sometimes asked why I use my time on doing things like this. And the answer is, that it´s quite meditating. I enjoy surrounding myself with color, and adding color to my everyday makes me happy. But the time I spend actually making it, like I did the other night, it´s like a meditation. I am calm and creative at the same time, with plenty of time to think about creative challenges.

The bits and pieces here are partly copies of my own work, cut-outs from magazines, journal-sheets from Teesha Moore, MOO-cards from friends, stamps, and so on. And additonal Caran D´Arche crayoning. All ready for my notes and thoughts. 2013 – here I come!
