Varnish

I´ve been trying out different types of varnish, and the effects they leave. Here is the first part of the process, with painting the texture.

It doesn´t show until the third layer of the varnish-aging process, but then you clearly see where you´ve not had enough of the first layer… (and then it´s too late) Better be careful when I start working with the real thing!

I like the little lines, the cracks in the varnish look a bit like wrinkles :-)

  1. Well, I think the cracks are what makes varnish so cool — takes into into the realm of Great Masters art, like Vermeer or something!

Be sure you wear a MASK, Janne! We don’t want you inhaling those toxic fumes! (ok, at least open a window or two)—

  2. Hya Janne, this is coming along very well. There’s something fresh and brave about making a piece of art and going beyond the comfort zone to almost destroy it again. Not that you are destroying it but you are taking it to the next step.

I like how you combine your practices.

I like the cracks too The whole treatment is adding another 3d depth dimension to the work… you can go into the painting and it is no longer purely on the surface
