I am about to teach a class in theatre-puppets, and decided to have a go at it, to renew the knowledge. Using DAS-clay, a kind of mix between paper-maché and plaster over a base of tin-foil.
The first picture is just a lump, really. Not even much of a skull-shape, which would have been a good idea…
I´ve just started working on the eyes here, adding first a half-ball for each eye, then the lids. Since I want this to be a puppet with strong, exaggerated features, I am over-doing the lower eye-lid.
Started working on the cheek-bones and chin. Feels like somethings missing, doesn´t it…
Ah, yes, that´s better. Add a nose, eyebrows and a mouth, and it just does the trick. The lips are looking quite feminine, so maybe this is a lady. We´ll have to see when what´s-his/her-name dries. Maybe we should just call him/her Kim. That´s a name for either sex, right? ( And in my Norwegian dialect it means “who”. )
Very much looking forward to Kim´s drying, so that I can get started on the painting.
What do you think: man or woman?
Oh, here is a link to Paoloa Zakimi´s blog, with a great tutorial! (And her eyes aren´t even crooked!)

Hello my friend who never rests. Oya como va? I just found outwhat they means today.
Oh this head would make Mogdigliani jealous. At first I thought woman, but then I saw an aging man, possible a ballet dancer, one who lives by himself in the bush just north of sydney, his partner having left him for a younger man….
You know, sculpture is like what I do, but this is real.
see you becareful
ahhhh DAS! so fun. and so many good memories
i’m kind of undecided as to man or woman. can’t wait to see what you come up with. either way, i’m sure it will be fabulous!
To Andrew:
You know, you seeing all that in my sculpted head, makes me want to make him just that. We´ll see what emerges when I start working with the painting this week.
To Michelle:
Maybe we should do some sculpting in April? It was truly fun the last round!
