Part of being a set-designer is making models. Models of the stage and everything you want to place on it. A lot of the culture-house-stages have the same minimum measurements, which makes it very practical to have a wooden model of one. For other shows in other venues, I make new models. This one is in light-weight capa-board.
The model is of a room at USF in Bergen, where I will be transforming the room from a worn-down old dance-studio to a proper stage-experience. In order to do so, using a model, making mock-ups of my plans, really helps me to see what works and what doesn´t.
I am really looking forward to working with this show, it´ll be something quite different from other shows I´ve worked with! I´ve already got a lot of my ideas in place, but finding the right balance between the elements is part of the fun of the process. And I´ll promise to share it with you, as June 21st approaches 😉
Now back to the model-making, filling up this empty stage…
