Trying out painted texture

Here is a small picture I made. It´s an about 20×30 cm wooden block. The face was printed on, but I´ve completely painted over it with opaque acrylics. I thought I´d  use this to try out texture-painting. Layer upon layer.

And then some more layers…

Dabbing with a spatula…

And watered out acrylic running down over the board. And then a watered out brown wash.

I´m not sure about this, but it was meant to be a trial, so in that sense I guess it is a success.

Which do you think is best?

  1. Synes absolutt den sisste var best, ser ut som om ho kikkar gjennom og ut av bildet, meir enn dei to første. Og nettop da likte eg Flott!

  2. I like a combination of both your methods. I think the drips generally work better on larger scale canvas?

  3. I love the close-up of that texture in the last photo. I think experimenting is so important to our growth as artists, and as such it’s important to accept all results as learning experiences and therefore “successful.” I’ve already been so impressed by your artistic endeavours – it’s great to see you pushing even farther beyond…
