Fig box lid

My friend Sid suggested I added something to the front of the box, like an oasis image. Of course! What a brilliant idea! I am so happy when you guys send me suggestions.

So, first, I mix a nice dessert color… naples yellow, white, deep azo yellow and warm grey mixed with medium to make it transparent, and then add layer upon layer.

And what is an oasis without palm-trees? The trick here was to make them work both ways. Both with the motif that´s already on there, and 90 degrees as a standing cabinet door.

For the knob I decided to just make one of all my oodles of beads lying around waiting to be used. The wood in the door is quite thin, so I needed to find just the right length screw. Which I didn´t. So I added another bead underneath the red ceramic one.

To hide the screw, I glued down a little metallic-plastic bead. And then I painted the underneath bead for contrast.

And then, thanks again to deMeng, I finished it all with a washed coat of the usuzch… (how does he spell that home-made impossible word? It´s short for the usual, by the way)

Oh yes! Much better! Don´t you agree? Thanks Sid! (Below is how it was earlier today for comparisment)

Now I need tips for the inside of the lid. Anyone?

Come to think of it, I do have a cool camel-portrait of the camel I was riding in Egypt. Maybe he should get the honor (?) of decorating the inside?
