So here is a little crafty weekend project for you, if you haven´t tried this before. Transferring a photo to fabric.
1. Take a photo-copy of your photo. Remember to flip it horizontally.
2. Put lots of glue directly on the paper. I use a glue specially made for this, called “Lakk-lim” which means varnish-glue translated. Different types can be used. Wood-glue works fine. Gel medium is fine.
Use a brush to even it out. The glue needs to cover the motif, not too thin and not to thick. (You might need to do a couple of tests here to make sure you get the right amount.)
3. Put the picture glue-face down on the fabric. Rub it down. Make sure you have enough glue to really make it stick.
Don´t get any glue on the back of the paper!
4. LET IT DRY COMPLETELY!!!!!!
Yep. Don´t cheat. Wait until tomorrow instead.
5. Pour some water onto the paper and let it soak for a minute. Start rubbing on the paper with your fingers, until the paper starts to come off.
6. Keep rubbing….
7. Once the paper seems to all have come off, let dry. If there is more paper after all, wet again, and rub some more. Continue process until all the paper is gone.
8. Image is transferred! Cool, huh?! The fabric can now be used in art-journals with paper, appliqued onto a top (that in the future will need careful hand-washing) or framed and put on the wall.
this is fun stuff! I’ve used mod-podge before and that works too! the tricky part is knowing when to peel it off…I thought it worked best dried almost all the way then I dipped my fingers into water and rubbed off.
happy monday!
so cool… I’ll have to try it. Thanks for sharing
