Skandi Africa is the newest and biggest offshore-vessel in DOF. It´s 33 meters wide and 130 meters long! (Thats´108 feet wide and 426 feet long). It is currently in the Netherlands, where a giant crane and an even bigger tower is being mounted. The crane alone can lift 900 tons! It is huge, this ship! I feel so honored to be one of three artists chosen to decorate this ship.

I´ve been onboard for three days now, getting everything up (around 140 pictures all together). With me I had Elise, who´s the head procurment-manager for the ship. And such a delight to work with. I am happy to take you on a little art-tour of the ship 
Let´s start in the mess. It´s the biggest of the common-areas rooms, with seating for 110. The color-scheme is light green, and we pieced pictures to match and contrast. My pictures are matched with Kyrre Møgster´s oil-paintings of people around the world.

There is accommodation for 140 people onboard, and I can reveal that they will not go hungry. The chefs onboard are excellent!

Right by the mess is the recreation-room, one of the busier lounges.

Moving up 3 stories, the captain´s lounge is another of the main gathering areas for free time relaxation. The modern splash of color behind the TV is a good match with my picture next to it.
The windows here add so much light, stretching from floor to ceiling.

Another wall in the same lounge. I made a relief-series of the history of shipping. A bit abridged. From the stone age, via the viking-ships, the sailing-ships, a steamer and finally a DOF offshore-vessel.
They are all digital photo collage, printed on and cut in aluminum.

Yet another lounge. The theme here is people of the world, and it is held in blue and purple hues.
My two pictures are Japanese. Two young girls dressed in traditional kimonos.
And a real samurai warrior in all his gear. Both ca 40×60 cm

Moving on to the smokers lounge. The lounges are lying next to each other, with windows between them, which makes it both much lighter and more social.

First, the old history of Bergen, represented with these two pictures, printed on brushed aluminum.

This picture is devided into two halves, and is a modern day picture of how Bergen is now. Originally this and some of the other pictures were made for a ship called Skandi Bergen, and the Captain wanted some pictures from the city. This ship was sold, and the art meant for it was transferred to this ship.

A detail of the wooden mosaic. Cut pieces of oak, 4×4 cm, are painted separately and glued down on a hidden wooden board.
One floor up is the officers deck, with the Captain´s cabin and office. The room has big windows, from ceiling to floor, and is filled with light. The furniture is also light.
He chose the pictures he liked best, and picked this acrylic painting of a little boat lying safely at harbor in the fog.

A captain is also head of security, so this safety-belt/ring was a natural choice.
Moving on to the chief and his cabin.
He´s got a starfish clinging to an old, rusty anchor and a close-up from a sailing-ship.

All the cabins are beautifully decorated, with leather sofas and chairs, stereo/tv/computer, a desk, and a bed of course.

The Captain and Elise in front of the big yellow tower that will be mounted on deck. The Captain took us on a tour of the ship before we left, and I am in awe of all the knowledge needed  that culminates in building a ship like this.
The ship doesn´t get baptized until August, they still need some time to mount the big crane and tower on deck. But it´s not to early for me to wish them the best of luck with all the future voyages!
