Christmas at Sola Airport! It\u00b4s a big assignment I\u00b4ve been working on the past couple of weeks, hired in by a local marketing-agency as a set-designer\/stylist. They had most of it planned\/designed, but my job to execute, get it done.<\/p>\n

It starts (for my part) right before entering the security-area. A big sign showing what you can find on the inside, both food, activities and shops.<\/p>\n

Right after you pass security, I hung a mistletoe from the ceiling. (Not part of the original idea, but I couldn\u00b4t resist!)<\/p>\n

Two of the gates are renamed Christmas-gates, one in domestic and one in international. We\u00b4ve removed all the usual institutional rows of chairs and replaced them with a big, red, flossy carpet, big advent-purple sofas and orange chairs.<\/p>\n

Not to mention the big, cosy wall-hanging with both a grand-piano and a fire-place! And in between it all, Christmas decorations, candles and small ferns on the tables, cushions and sheep-skins in the sofas. It didn\u00b4t take long before travelers kicked off their shoes, and curled up in the sofas! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Everything that looks big anywhere else, looks tiny in an airport. All the stuff I had gathered, it all seemed so small. So for the second round I got some BIG Christmas-stars to hang in a couple of the windows. Some of them with light, some of them glitter.<\/p>\n

We also got two glass boxes, where I picked stuff from the shops to display. Meant to give inspiring ideas for Christmas-gifts, I made creative to-and-from-cards attached to them, and ended it all with a red bow on top.<\/p>\n

And of course there are Christmas trees! Real ones! No true Christmas-feeling without decorated trees! Two at each gate. And garlands! (These garlands filled my living-room, now look how small they look!)<\/p>\n

No, it\u00b4s\u2026. superm\u2026<\/p>\n

Wait, it actually is a plane!<\/p>\n

I just didn\u00b4t recognize it with antlers on.<\/p>\n

This cute little play-plane is in the domestic area, and all dressed up for Christmas.<\/p>\n

What else? There are also board-games at each gate. That way, you can play and be social with your fellow travelers, instead of yawning away in a magazine \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

Wow. This has been SUCH an interesting assignment, I can hardly express it! To be able to see how an airport functions from behind the scenes is just amazing! The people there are all so dedicated, so engaged in their workplace, so concerned for all the travelers. I might add that Sola airport in Stavanger is a bit special. It\u00b4s the only airport I know of that has their own \u201cterminal-experience-leader\u201d. That\u00b4s him there, in the photo below, getting his Christmas-card-photo taken! Another great idea \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

There are always fresh flowers in the bathrooms, and there is always a service-coordinator at work, helping out where-ever there is need for her. I\u00b4ve always loved Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, but Sola is now in the lead just for their service-attitude and thorough quality \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n
