I took a double Sunday this weekend, just relaxing and spending some quality-time with my art-journal. That is to say, my old art-journal, that\u00b4s been following me the past four year finally got filled to the last pages, and I made a new one.<\/p>\n

The last two pages of my old journal. The details of my paintings are not all that great, that\u00b4s because I\u00b4m practicing painting with a large brush in a relatively small size paper. Another thing I practice is using not-realistic colors, concentrating on nuances in light & shade. (It\u00b4s funny to see the pages in even smaller size, here on the blog. All the faults and mistakes seem to pop out even more. I have to keep reminding myself that this journal is just for fun and practice \u2013 it doesn\u00b4t have to be perfect artwork!))<\/p>\n

All the new pages waiting for creativity to be spilled out on them! All creative people have heard the phrase \u201cthe fear of the white page\u201d. So I thought it might be a good idea to NOT have the pages white! I\u00b4ve used all sorts of different types of paper, some high-quality-watercolor paper, some gift-papers, some already painted on and left paper by my nieces and nephews. If I really want a white page, all I have to do is paint it white. No big deal.<\/p>\n

I get so wrapped up in the process I forget to photograph while working. As with the other calendar-books, I freestyle machine-embroidered the cover.<\/p>\n

The cover-girl. She has the basic stitches and coloring, but need more paint and details. And if nothing else, she needs a glimmer of light in her eyes!<\/p>\n

The back-panel is made of the softest goat-leather (a leftover from a Perpleks<\/a>-costume)<\/p>\n The first pages in the book are already painted! Grow<\/em><\/strong> is the theme in Illustration Friday<\/a> this week, and I thought about Peter Pan. I\u00b4m doing the scenography for the show<\/a> due in October, so he\u00b4s been on my mind this summer. The green painting is the background for the poster of the show.<\/p>\n The boy is inspired by my little nephew, who has just reached his \u201cdefiance-age\u201d.
