Michelle<\/a> taught me how to bind books when I visited her, and I am so thankful! Because now I can make awesome presents from scratch!\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Using the back of a water-color-pad, measuring and carefully cutting through the thick carton.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Fabriano water-color-paper is the best kind of paper, as it doesn\u00b4t crack and break when you fold it. Here I\u00b4ve sewn the pages on to canvas.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Using special loosely woven linen to hold the pieces together.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But where is the bird from yesterday, you ask!??<\/p>\n

Well, he\u00b4s not far away. He\u00b4s going to decorate the cover of this journal.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I should use acid-free PVA-glue, but I don\u00b4t have that. So I\u00b4m using wood-glue, crossing my fingers it will be ok.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

More glue, for the inside-pages.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Using hand-printed paper from Asia.<\/p>\n

The result?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The front cover, the love-bringing bird.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The back is covered with \u201cfeathers\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Looks kind of cool, huh? I am totally excited that I can now make my own covers for my own books, and not just paint, but even work almost three-dimensional with the applique.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Now all we have to do is fill it with \u2026 ups, I can\u00b4t tell. It\u00b4s still a secret. It\u00b4s a present for someone really special, who might be reading the blog. So I\u00b4ll have to keep that a secret for still another week. I\u00b4ll post about the content then, because I think we have a pretty good idea we\u00b4re working on.<\/p>\n
