Another beautiful DOF-ship, newly built at Aukra Verft. The Christening is July 31st in Bergen, at Skoltegrunnskaien, the quay the ship is named after.<\/p>\n

Queuing to get onboard.<\/p>\n \u2026 and on the lounge-walls:<\/p>\n Pictures for the mess:<\/p>\n This picture is from Skoltegrunnskaien in 1926, when Polar-hero Amundsen visited Bergen.<\/p>\n At the end of the 19th century, people buying fish at the fish-market (Fisketorget).<\/p>\n Three men sorting the fish for shipping. Probably for sale in Norway, but maybe export to Spain.<\/p>\n Haakonshallen seen from the Rosenkrantz tower, with Skoltegrunnskaien in the background.<\/p>\n \u2026 and on the walls in the mess:<\/p>\n For the smoker\u00b4s lounge we have two pictures:<\/p>\n One of my favorite is this portrait of a young boy at Fisketorget in 1911.<\/p>\n This fisher is mending his net while his wife is watching.<\/p>\n Isn\u00b4t it funny how he looks like just an ordinary bloke who could be working onboard this<\/em> ship?<\/p>\n For the Captain\u00b4s loung a couple of stairs up, we have these pictures, with titles inspired by a traditional, patriotic children\u00b4s song from Bergen:<\/p>\n The next three pictures are given titles from a local patriotic Bergen song:<\/p>\n \u201cEg ve te Bergen, ve te Bergen med det samme!\u201d<\/p>\n (I want to go to Bergen, go to Bergen straight away!)<\/p>\n \u201cDer har eg det som fisken i vannet\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n (There I am like the fish in the water)<\/p>\n \u201cV\u00e5tt og kaldt og breiflabb overalt!\u201d<\/p>\n (Wet and cold and Lophius piscatorius (\u201csea-devils\u201d) everywhere!)<\/p>\n \u2026and on the lounge-walls:<\/p>\n And speaking of the Captain, here is his cabin:<\/p>\n This is Statsraad Lehmkul, one of Norway\u00b4s proud tall-ships.<\/p>\n This is the chief\u00b4s picture, Skoltegrunnskaien seen from Nordnes.<\/p>\n The chief is also hard at work.<\/p>\n Here is the conference room:<\/p>\n The pictures have an embroidered text, part of an ode to the west-coast of Norway.<\/p>\n Where the beaten and battered driftwood turns into saalty silver treasures<\/em><\/p>\n \u2013 on these shores my memory gathers pleasures<\/em><\/p>\n Where the entangled light of dawn belong<\/em><\/p>\n \u2013 this is where my faith grew strong<\/em><\/p>\n Where the ancient slopes of naked rock patiently listens to the seagulls wailing<\/em><\/p>\n \u2013 this is where my soul is sailing<\/em><\/p>\n Where the bare rock-faces whisper secrets in your ear<\/em><\/p>\n \u2013 this is where the dusks are crisp and clear.<\/em><\/p>\n On the very top of the ship you\u00b4ll find the sky-lounge.
