Today I opened my solo-exhibition in Moster Amfi as this year\u00b4s chosen artist for the Mostrafestival & historic play. This year is special since it is also the main event weekend for B\u00f8mlo municipal to celebrate their 50 year anniversary.<\/p>\n

Above is the poster for the exhibition, and below you can see pictures from the actual exhibition. I called the exhibition \u201cHEIM\u201d which means \u201cHOME\u201d. And it is in many ways a tribute to the island where I\u00b4ve grown up. This is where my roots are, this is my horizon.<\/p>\n

Below is what I consider to be one of the main pictures in the exhibition. Sl\u00e5tter\u00f8y, Norway\u00b4s largest light-tower, with the strongest light in all of Northern Europe stands tall at the Northern tip of B\u00f8mlo.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately I don\u00b4t have any photos from the opening, but Amalie Nilsen had a lovely speech and Trio Vest played beautifully!<\/p>\n

The main room seems carved out of the mountain, with two of the walls completely in solid rock. The pictures were mounted on thin wire, and appeared to be suspended in space, floating midair. Such a beautiful and raw setting for my art! (At the bottom of the post, you can see better versions of the pictures themselves)<\/p>\n

Almost all of the art was made especially for this exhibition, with motifs from around B\u00f8mlo. But I did add a couple of less site-spesific motifs too. I just can\u00b4t refuse old boats!<\/p>\n

While being interviewed by a journalist before the opening, I suddenly found a name for my art: I\u00b4m a coast-romantic! (Or \u201ccoastal-romantic\u201d, I\u00b4m not sure which sounds better translated)<\/p>\n

But I do think that coastal-culture is a lot more than old wooden boats! So very much more. It\u00b4s our everyday life, the way we choose to live our lives, what is important to us today, here and now. Coastal-culture isn\u00b4t defined by the past, it can just as well be the present. It\u00b4s not all about rowing-boats, it can just as well be supply-ships. It\u00b4s not necessarily fishing nets, it can just as well be farmed salmon in meres.<\/p>\n

But to repeat myself. I do love old boats! A bit rusty, with bulges and scrapes in the paint, boats with history, boats with a silent story untold. I want to tell that story. Visually.<\/p>\n

The same goes for the landscape. All the waves, year after year after century after century, that have washed these shores clean of anything but the raw truth. There is a special light, a certain longing, the fresh smell of salt. It needs to be experienced, it cannot be explained.<\/p>\n

But back to the exhibition. Another two rows of pictures. The ones above are all made as photo-collages, the ones below are collages made of paper and oxidized metal-mesh.<\/p>\n

All in all it\u00b4s 48 art pieces in this show.<\/p>\n

\u201cMake Waves\u201d. That\u00b4s a pretty good motto, I think.<\/p>\n

The only picture directly connected to Mostraspelet (the local historic viking play) is of when a young viking gets his first sword.<\/p>\n

The third room in the exhibition area is the caf\u00e9. The warmth in the solid wooden wall &nbsp;matches the warmth in my pictures.<\/p>\n

Not everyone has a lot of wall-space, so I also made a bunch of cushions, all unique, with a silkscreen print of the naked rock faces again from Sl\u00e5tter\u00f8y.<\/p>\n
