And so many World Heritage Cutural sites! There is so much to see in this city, everywhere you turn, it seems.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21004\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-06.05.39-450x300.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-15-06-05-39\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-06.05.39-450x300.gif 450w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-06.05.39-150x100.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\"><\/p>\n<p>When I arrived, I walked&amp;amp;nbsp;to the Kyoto Museum of Modern Art. And right next to it, the Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts. The first one was good, the second was great! It had working craftsmen there, showing techniques in pottery and jewelry. And in the story above I stumbled across a crafts-fair, with lots of artists selling their own things.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21005\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.08.55-450x300.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-15-07-08-55\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.08.55-450x300.gif 450w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.08.55-150x100.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\"><\/p>\n<p>This is the Heianjingu shrine, right next to the museums. There is a fall festival going on, there are celebrations going on everywhere, drums and theatre-performances.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21006\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.29.34-427x600.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-15-07-29-34\" width=\"427\" height=\"600\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.29.34-427x600.gif 427w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.29.34-150x211.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 427px) 100vw, 427px\"><\/p>\n<p>The Heianjingu shrine had a sacred garden, and it was such a delight! In the middle of the city, such peace, and such beauty!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21007\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.32.44-450x300.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-15-07-32-44\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.32.44-450x300.gif 450w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.32.44-150x100.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\"><\/p>\n<p>A procession was about to take place, with hundreds of ladies dressed in the same cotton kimonos\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21008\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-15-07.34.14.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-15-07-34-14\" width=\"429\" height=\"207\"><\/p>\n<p>But some are celebrating independently of the fall festivals. Like this 3-year old boy, who is having his first formal visit to the temple. All dressed up and posing for the photographer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21009\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-02.39.19-450x533.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-16-02-39-19\" width=\"450\" height=\"533\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-02.39.19-450x533.gif 450w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-02.39.19-150x178.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\"><\/p>\n<p>Today I was really lucky: I had a guide with me all day, and boy, did we see a lot!<\/p>\n<p>The Fushini Inari shrine is actually a mountain, 260 meters high in the middle of the city. Over 10 000 of these orange portals are framing the pathways all the way up to the top of the mountain. We only walked about half-way up, but got a great view of the city. The main thing though, was not the view, but the amazing \u201challways\u201d of portals. (Apparently made well-known after the movie \u201cMemoirs of a Geisha\u201d)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21011\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-02.48.39-400x600.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-16-02-48-39\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-02.48.39-400x600.gif 400w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-02.48.39-150x225.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\"><\/p>\n<p>Arriving at the Tenryuji temple, we were met with another procession, this time reenacting when an imperial princess visited the temples shrine 700 years ago. A big parade with musicians, drummers, priests and of course the princess herself.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21012\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-05.03.20-450x493.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-16-05-03-20\" width=\"450\" height=\"493\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-05.03.20-450x493.gif 450w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-05.03.20-150x164.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\"><\/p>\n<p>Moving swiftly on, we visited the bamboo forrest. And the days second wow-I-wanna-be-here-forever-place. Even with all the other tourists, it was such a serene place. (Sorry, I just had to post one of those been-there-done-that-photos)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21013\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-05.48.59-423x600.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-16-05-48-59\" width=\"423\" height=\"600\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-05.48.59-423x600.gif 423w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-05.48.59-150x213.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 423px) 100vw, 423px\"><\/p>\n<p>Next&amp;amp;nbsp;we went to the Ninnaji temple, one of the three 5-stories high pagodas in Kyoto. We didn\u00b4t even get in the gate before we were in the middle of yet another procession. Here are a couple of the monks waiting to welcome the visiting deity.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21014\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-07.30.22.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-16-07-30-22\" width=\"373\" height=\"597\"><\/p>\n<p>Finally, the pagoda. This was built in the 17th century, and was so impressive! Even though some of the other temples we\u00b4d seen were older, as old as a thousand years old. Others were rebuilt after fires.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-21015\" src=\"http:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-08.10.08-435x600.gif\" alt=\"2016-10-16-08-10-08\" width=\"435\" height=\"600\" =\"https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-08.10.08-435x600.gif 435w, https:\/\/www.spindelmaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2016-10-16-08.10.08-150x207.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\"><\/p>\n<p>And finally, we visited the Kinkakuji temple with the golden pavilion. Golden as in covered with real gold-leaf. It\u00b4s just too much to tell in one post. I am still processing all the impressions myself.
