I have what looks like a portable paint-brush inside my right arm. It\u00b4s not. It\u00b4s made of metal. And the brushy-part is metal screws. No big deal. I broke my wrist. Slightly bigger deal, it\u00b4s my right arm. As an artist, my right arm is rather valuable to me. But again, no big deal. I live in a blessed country with functioning social democracy, which means, that I do not only get medical help when I need it. It\u00b4s all paid for by the state and through my taxes. This post isn\u00b4t really about the politics though. It\u00b4s about dealing with a new and unknown situation through art. Above is a water-color of my x-rayed arm. I had surgery, and the doctors placed a metal-rod into my arm, along the bone. And screwed it down.<\/p>\n

As I mentioned, my right arm is rather important to me. So post-surgery, it is all about training back the movement, strength and flexibility into my arm. I started by knitting, to train my wrist, but I wanted to make an art-piece of my x-ray, and I wanted to needle-point embroider it. Turned out embroidery is even better than knitting for wrist-training.<\/p>\n

First, I printed a copy of the photo of the x-ray. I then traced the image by taping the print up on the wondow and crawing directly on the loosely woven stramei-fabric with alchohol-ink markers.<\/p>\n

The grey nuances in fine alpaca-yarn.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And off we go! Needle-point is unbelievably meditative. Listening to audio-books and repetitive motions to train my wrist and seeing the progress. The size is about 10\u00d725 cm, and it took me 4 days to complete, &amp;nbsp;with pauses so I wouldn\u00b4t get tendonitis.<\/p>\n

Finally, the needle-point is finished, and I sewed on a black velvet backing, stuffed it, and now I can use it as an arm-rest when I am using the mouse on my computer. If that\u00b4s not meta-art, I don\u00b4t know!<\/p>\n
